GENTLE TOURISM. HOLISTIC, ECOLOGICAL TRAVEL.

Whether it is more sustainable travel that is only just becoming more important to you today,  or whether you have been doing eco-tourism for a long time. Here are some tips for those who want to go on adventures more sustainably.

BEFORE DEPARTURE.

Anticipation, excitement, packing suitcases. As the next holiday approaches, it cannot come soon enough. But a sustainable holiday starts a long way before, for example when you book.

Top Tip: Pay attention to seals and sustainability categories.
Many travel companies, offer something like a “sustainable travel” category. Like that you can put a green stamp on your journey from the very first moment.

The case will be packed shortly before the trip, of course. And what can be done to make your journey even more sustainable? Travelling with small luggage. Less weight means fewer emissions and a lower CO2 footprint. So when packing your suitcase, ask yourself what you really need at your destination. Be honest: You always bring too much anyway, right?

NEW DESTINATIONS.

Endless white beaches, blue skies, sun, a cool drink in your hand. We bet you now have a Caribbean image in mind. But the North Sea island of Amrum could be described in the same words, too.

Our tip: Explore more nearby destinations every now and then.
This is pure sustainable tourism and, above all, less stressful. If the long journey is eliminated, not only will a lot of CO2 be saved, but perhaps also a few stress hormones. Gentle tourism clearly relies on buses and trains. It’s more climate-smart than flying, the journey to your destination is more relaxing and you can slowly say goodbye to your everyday life.

If you select the aircraft as your means of transport, there are many organisations that offset the CO2 emissions of your flight. This way, your next trip will give you an even better feeling.

IN MY SUITCASE, I PACK: LESS.

Space-saving packing and reduced suitcase weight is how you travel in a more environmentally friendly way.Because every additional kilogram generates higher emissions. But there are other things to look out for when packing your suitcase.

Packing correctly: Before your trip, think even more carefully about what you want to take with you in your suitcase. Every gram less counts. For example, get a checklist and tick it off one after the other. Avoid environmental baddies, such as small plastic bottles from the hotels. It is much better to buy reusable empty bottles in shops and fill them yourself. You can use them at home when the journey is over. Even better: solid soaps. They are usually without plastic packaging and cannot leak in the case. There is even solid shaving soap. And even though everything is available everywhere these days, don't buy unnecessary things. It’s best to only buy what you can actually continue to use at home.

Packing less has even more advantages: You’ll be finished packing your suitcase faster and you simply have less weight to move during your trip. Finally: It is better to pack a sustainable suitcase properly. For example, IMPACKT! We use recycled plastic waste to make its shells and lining and it is vegan.

TRAVELLING WITH IMPACKT.

There are many ways to travel more responsibly. It often starts with small details, such as how you behave in the bathroom of your hotel or holiday apartment. We find a range of towels that we like to help ourselves to. Of course, it is better for the environment if you use as few of them as possible and do not change them every day. The same goes for bed linen. Saving laundry saves clear water, waste water, cleaning agents and energy. This helps the environment to a great extent. Especially when lots of people do it.

Omission is also a major issue in order to travel in a more resource-efficient way. Especially when it comes to waste. Did you know that many countries cannot recycle or process hazardous waste, such as batteries? So do not take it with you in the first place, or dispose of it at home.

What else could you do without? That is right right, a rental car. Public transport is available almost everywhere. Let exploring a country become an adventure. You see a lot more and are closer to the locals. Most cities can also be explored by foot. This allows you to experience the culture right away and get a head start on any alleyway or bistro.

Try to lower water consumption on your trip. More sustainable travel means saving water wherever you can. Water is scarce, especially in warmer countries. Reduce your water consumption wherever possible – it’s a precious commodity.

One favourite thing to do on holidays is also precious: Shopping. Whether it is for yourself or for a gift for your loved ones. Try to shop locally and not in the large chains. Take a look at small shops, buy olive oil and other food directly from the farmer or at regional markets. Here, products are usually more authentic and often not mass-produced. Eco-tourism has added value not only for the environment, but also for local people.

Another recommendation for improving social and economic sustainability: A good tip helps people in many countries. For you it is often only a small amount, but for the locals it is a necessary, big support.

PRESERVE IMPACKT.

To make sure your IMPACKT stays eye-catching for as long as possible, here are a few tips for you.

Travel leaves its marks – even on your suitcase. The best way to clean the outside and inside is with a clean cloth and lukewarm water. Simply use biodegradable washing-up liquid and dilute it with a little water.

Have you brought home a strong-smelling cheese from your holiday in France and its smell is lasting longer than you would like? Then it is time for extensive ventilation and vinegar-based cleaning agents. These help to neutralise odours, that should have stayed at the holiday destination.

Dust, dried dirt and sand are best removed with a vacuum cleaner and brush attachment. Alternatively, use a soft clothes brush.

When you drop off your IMPACKT at the airport, it sometimes travels through rougher hands. Rubber abrasion and similar blemishes can then be removed with a dry cloth or a dirt eraser. However, please do not use solvent-based cleaning agents such as nail polish remover. Your IMPACKT does not like too hard brushes or rough sponges either.

If you follow these tips, your IMPACKT will remain a well-kept travel companion for a long time to come.
